z² - 6z - 27 = 0
z² + 3z - 9z - 27 = 0
z(z+3) - 9(z+3) = 0
(z+3)(z-9) = 0

z + 3 = 0   or   z - 9 = 0
z = -3              z = 9

Answer: z=-3 and z=9
