If [tex]-2x-y=-4[/tex] and [tex]x+2y=5[/tex], notice that

[tex](-2x-y)+2(x+2y)=-4+2\cdot5\implies3y=6\implies y=2[/tex]

Then

[tex]x+2\cdot2=5\implies x=1[/tex]
